JAKARTA: The government will promote the return policy of conversion of fuel oil (fuel) to fuel gas (CNG), especially for public transportation such as taxis and buses in the Jakarta area began in 2011.

Members of the National Energy Board (DEN) Agusman Effendi revealed basically the use of CNG was part of the main points of national energy policies formulated by DEN.

"I think in 1-2 weeks, we've entered the stage to the finalization of this fuel gas usage. We've held meetings with the Ministry of Transportation, administration, Ministry of Research and Technology, Ministry of Environment, "he said today.

CNG conversion program goal, he said, among them to reduce carbon emissions in line with other government programs.

He said the fundamentals of national energy policy was also explained that the use of CNG in the transport sector is cheaper and cleaner than gasoline.

According to him, BBG programs are already running some particularly its use for Bus Transjakarta, is expected to be improved overall

Because, he says, DEN BBG plans to equalize the different prices from two suppliers, between PT Pertamina (Persero) and PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk.

Associated with lack of infrastructure problem that became obstacles for the implementation of this BBG, Agusman admit it caused by the lack of development of gas refueling stations (SPBG) since 2003.

"Even the amount estimated decreases. That is the problem. How can we hope to add more outlets SPBG and good infrastructure we must also return, for example related to the gas pipeline. "

Agusman said the government through the Ministry of Transportation plans to increase the amount of fuel gas converter kit in 2011 that targets the use of CNG for public transport in Jakarta area for the initial phase of this to happen.

According to him, the government will also implement CNG conversion program in 10 major cities in Indonesia after the target transportation common usage in the Jakarta area can be realized starting in 2011.

"For now, Jakarta used to be our priority. For the next targets, will be 10 major cities that we will specify use of CNG as fuel, "said Agusman.

To note, the previous Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Darwin Zahedy Saleh revealed the development of natural gas utilization in the transportation sector is still hampered many things, among them the limitations of distribution pipelines, the high price of converter kits, investment and operating costs and expensive SPPG margin is not attractive to investors.

According to him, the government through relevant agencies to revitalize SPBG and distribution of converter kits as well as coordinate with relevant agencies both at central and local level to promote natural gas utilization in the transportation sector.

In addition, the government will also facilitate the development of natural gas, which determines the price of CNG is expected to be attractive to providers (investors), to subsidize the price of CNG to the transport sector, provide the legal umbrella of the use of CNG for transport sector.

"Utilization of natural gas [CNG] for transportation has not run optimally because there are still some obstacles in the exercise. Public opinion that the use of CNG has a greater security risk than the fuel oil is also an obstacle, "said Darwin, some time ago. (Wiw) By: Nurbaiti (Bisnis.com)
