JAKARTA: The government asked the consortium of PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero) Tbk, PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) and PT Pertamina (Persero) will soon realize the plan to build LNG terminal in the Gulf receiver Jakarta and Medan to avoid a deficit in supply of gas for electricity. Director General of Electricity and Energy Utilization, Department of Energy and Mineral Resources J. Purwono said current and the next three years of gas supply deficit for the power plant will likely continue to occur. To cope, he said, the government has actually ordered three state-owned, PGN, PLN and Pertamina to build two terminals accepting liquefied natural gas (liquefied natural gas / LNG) in the Bay of Jakarta and Medan. "The minister has ordered PLN, Pertamina and PGN to build LNG receiving terminals. The purpose of development is to supply the gas shortage," he said yesterday. With the recipient's terminal, he said, the supply of gas for electricity and other industries that need to be taken from Tangguh, other field, including in the form of LNG imports. "Without the terminal, it can not be done. So it must be accelerated." In 2009, PLN is to calculate the gas shortage to reach 763 million cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of the total needs of 2140 MMSCFD. Next year, the new PLN supply contracts from 1572 MMscgd needs rose to 2233 MMSCFD. PLN returned to find additional supplies of a total of 818 MMSCFD MMSCFD in 2413 needs 2011. In 2012 and 2013, respectively PLN still needs additional gas supply of 662 new and 825 MMSCFD MMSCFD of annual needs, each of which reached 2413 and 2474 MMSCFD MMSCFD in two years. Based on initial plans, the second recipient of the LNG terminal is scheduled to complete in 2012. However, so far the project has not experienced significant progress. Recipient LNG terminal in Jakarta Bay had to get supplies from Total E & P Indonesie-Inpex from the Mahakam block, 1.5 million tons or about 211 MMSCFD from 2012. Although planned to get supply from Bontang, Tough, and Donggi-Senoro, not a single gas supply commitments to the terminal will receive LNG Medan. PLN president director Fahmi Mochtar said the current planning project is still very fluid, dynamic, and there is no certainty because it can vary. Changes, he said, could happen to things related to capital, the source of gas, and the amount of shares between the three members of the consortium. (Kompas.com
