- World trade is forecast to grow 9.5 percent in 2010, after
experiencing the biggest decline since World War II in 2009, Head of
the World Trade Organization (WTO) Pascal Lamy said Friday."Our economists expect growth of world trade for the year 2010 by 9.5 percent with the trade of developing countries grew 11 percent and trade in industrialized countries grew 7.5 percent," said WTO director general. "This means that the trade aware, there is light at the end of the tunnel and it must have good prospects, good news for the world economy," he added. World trade declined 12 percent in 2009 due to global economic crisis. Patrick Low, chief economist at the WTO, noted that the projected growth of 9.5 percent this year will need to be repeated in 2011 in order for the global economy to recover to the levels of trade which reached peak in 2008 before the crisis hit. "If you need to do that in one year, you will need 14 percent," he added. In the midst of a decline in world trade last year, China beyond Germany became the world's top exporter with about 1.20 trillion dollars of merchandise exported in 2009, according to WTO data. Germany exported 1.12 billion dollars in goods, while the world's largest importer, the United States, was in third place with exports worth 1.06 billion dollars last year. | antaranews.com | tenderoffer.biz |
