TIMIKA: Expert Staff Governor of Papua Agus Sumule reveal still many potential mines in Papua, which has yet to be exploited to improve the welfare of local people.
Agus said the mine's potential include oil and gas, gold, copper, coal, nickel, iron sand, and others. He mentioned the potential for oil and natural gas than there is in the Gulf Bay West Papua province is now managed by BP, is also found in Merauke.
"Merauke save approximately 14.4 cubic feet of potential oil and gas with the quality and quantity in the world," Agus said yesterday.

Meanwhile, gold and copper potential in most areas of Papua. Potential of gold and copper are only partly exploited by PT Freeport Indonesia's Grasberg area Tembagapura, Mimika. The potential of coal are in Memberamo, Bay Bay, south of Mimika to Merauke and so far not been exploited.

"The potential is very large coal in Papua. If this can be managed well it is one of the cheapest energy source," he explained
