SEMARANG, - Potential coal in Indonesia, promising to be developed. The high coal reserves could be used for generating electrical energy to replace petroleum.
It surfaced in the National Seminar commemorating the Geology Engineering Geology Lustrum Semarang Diponegoro University in Semarang, Central Java, on Sunday (6 / 12). The speaker was the Chairman of the Department of Economic Geology Society Certification Indonesia Iwan Munajat, Training Manager of PT Bukit Asam Mohammad Hatta, Human Resources Manager PT Timah R Eko Purwanto, and Trijayanto Poespito of PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara. Mohammad Hatta said the Indonesian coal reserves reach 9 billion tons, or 1.2 percent of total coal reserves in the world. Based on data from the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources, coal production in 2009 reached 225 million tons, as many as 75 million tons for domestic and 150 million tons for export. Coal production in 2008 reached 198 million tons and in 2007 196 million tons. "Domestically, coal is used for electric energy and fuel industry," said Hatta. Iwan Munajat said coal production has not followed optimizing their utilization. That is because the dependence on petroleum as an energy source is still high and the utilization of technology and lack of awareness. Year 2025, estimated utilization change energy sources, namely coal 33 percent, 30 percent of natural gas, petroleum 21 percent, and another 17 percent of energy.
