PRESS RELEASE
Geothermal Energy Development in Indonesia

Indonesia's location in the "ring of fire" of the world with so many volcanoes in addition to the harmful effects of the gift will also provide the availability of environmentally friendly energy is geothermal. The potential of geothermal energy which is owned by Indonesia reached around 28,000 MW with the potential resources and reserves 13,440 MW 14,473 MW spread over 265 locations throughout Indonesia.

Of the potential for these, 4% or 1189 MW energy has been utilized for power generation with the largest installed capacity in the area of West Java in the amount of 1057 MW (20% of reserves), followed by 60 MW in Central Java, North Sulawesi and 60 MW North Sumatra 12 MW. For the development of geothermal energy, the government provides ample opportunity to the private sector to participate in the development of geothermal power.

As government efforts to encourage the development of geothermal energy in Indonesia, the Government has issued Law No. 27 of 2003 on Geothermal and Government Regulation No. 59 of 2007 on Geothermal Business Activities. Based on these regulations has been the establishment of 22 (twenty two) Working Area Mining (WKP) consisting of 8 WKP in Sumatra, 7 WKP in Java, Sulawesi WKP 2, 3 WKP in Nusa Tenggara and the Maluku WKP 2. To support the geothermal investment climate, the Government also put together a program to complete the restructuring decision about buying and selling electricity from PLTP.

Looking ahead, the Government intends to further use of geothermal energy in the national electricity supply through the accelerated development of power generation 10,000 MW stage II, the composition mixnya energy more toward renewable energy, one of which was geothermal. With the implementation of this program, expected contribution of geothermal energy utilization increased to 17% (4713 MW) of geothermal energy potential which existed until the year 2015.

Currently geothermal field development in Ulubelu, Lampung Province are underway. This has been successfully field drilling 12 (twelve) wells with potential production of steam from the test of 80 MW. Development of geothermal field is also being held in Moss Hall (South Sumatra Province), Sungai Penuh (Jambi Province), Hululais (Bengkulu Province), Kotamobagu (North Sulawesi), Karaha (West Java Province).

Indonesia as a country that has a geothermal resource in the world's largest (40% of world reserves) is also active in the arena of world geothermal industry. On 25-30 April 2010 conference will be held geothermal world (World Geothermal Conference) in Denpasar, Bali. This meeting will be attended by more than 1,000 business people of the world geothermal industry. Discussion forums related to technology businesses and human resource capacity building will be the focus of the meeting.
