NDUNG. Museum of Geology with a peculiar view geologi collections are expected to be the center of education for learning about the science of geology as Head of Geological expectations expressed yesterday, Sunday (05/15/2011) can presumably realized. No less 400.000an visitors from various disciplines registered to visit the Museum which stores a collection of various types of rocks from all over Indonesia, and record trail the past life.



Museum of Geology, in addition to showing off a variety of materials and activities in the room east wing kegeologian also exhibited a variety of living creatures from primitive to modern times, such as, reptiles, invertebrates that live behind the large central control until the end of the Mesozoic Period (210-65 million years ago) was exhibited in form of fossil replica Tyrannosaurus Rex Osborn (Type ferocious carnivorous lizard), which length is 19 m, 6.5 m tall and weighs 8 tons.

Traces the evolution of mammals that lived in the Tertiary era (6.5 to 1.7 million years ago) and Quaternary (1.7 million years ago until now) in Indonesia recorded either through the fossils of mammals (elephant, rhino, buffalo, horses nil) and hominids are found in the soil layer in some places, especially in Java as well as a collection of ancient human skull fossil found in Indonesia (Homo erectus P. VIII) and in several other places in the world collected in the form of the replicas are also on display in this museum.

The following information collection owned by the Museum of Geology:

 

  1. Collection of various jensi rock consisting of Igneous, sedimentary rocks clastic / mechanical, pyroclastic sedimentary rocks, metamorphic rocks (metamorphic rocks), metamorphic rocks contact / touch / thermal, metamorphic rock press / dynamo / kataklastik, regional metamorphic rocks / magneto-thermal
  2. Collection of various types of metallic and non metallic minerals and precious stones including precious stones which have a specific hardness (> 7 Mohs scale) so that when cut, polished and burnished has intrinsic value, beautiful and resistant to various influences that have been used as jewelry / accessories, ornaments / ornaments or decorations.
  3. Collection of fossils of living creatures of the past which is a remnant, impression or trace the life of both plants and animals that live in the past / ancient and has been preserved / petrified due to natural processes.
  4. Collection of objects from space as Tektit (the rock that is glass, formed as a result of fierce spark in a collision between meteorites and rocks on the surface of the earth. Example: tektit Javait, Rizalit & Bilitonit) and Meteorites that come from outer space (usually fragments of asteroids) which fell to the earth's surface due to the influence of gravity. Meteorites are divided into three parts, namely, the Stone Meteorite (Stony Meteorites), Iron Meteorite (Iron Meteorites) and Meteorite mixture (Mixture Meteorites).



The existence of the Museum of Geology is one form of public services from the Ministry of Energy and Geological Resources to the public in disseminating information about the science of geology. Based on information obtained esdm.go.id, the number of visitors the Museum which was established on May 16, 1928 are as next, in 2005 the number of visitors as many as 152,740 people, 2006 211 594 people, in 2007, 291,930 people, in 2008, 287,636 people. Furthermore, in the year 2009 was visited by 326,195 people and in 2010, visited by as many as 400,726 people. (SF)
